MOA and MOU signing to reduce glasshouse slavery

On June 25, 2024 at Supatra Hotel, Vientiane Capital, there was a ceremony of signing "Development Cooperation (MOA) and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and Chaleun Sekong Carbon Co., Ltd. with the honor to attend of Mr. Salemxay Kommasit, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Phet Phompithak, Minister of Planning and Investment, Mr. Linkham Duangsavanh Ratmo Minister of Agriculture and Forestry together with Deputy Ministers, Governor-Deputy Governor and guests are cordially invited to attend.

In such a ceremony there are:

1. Signing of Development Cooperation (MOA) project to reduce the release of slavery from deforestation and  to launch reforestation project (Phase II)
2. Signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to study the feasibility of developing a project to reduce slavery from deforestation and to launch reforestation project (Phase III)
3. Signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to discuss and research on the establishment of a Cooperative Company on the Management of Trade and Sale of Carbon Credit to continue to support the determination and implementation of the necessary laws for the development of the Forest Carbon Credit Project to reduce the emission of slavery from deforestation to enrich and sustain the three national forest areas: the only mountainous national forest (cover Champasak, Salavan, Attapeu) and the national forest of Namkong-Sesu and Sekong-Sekhaman.

The signing of this partnership is an important step in the project that will help preserve and rehabilitate forests especially in authorized areas to be successful and sustainable, increasing forest areas across the country, creating economic value and jobs for local tribes, at the same time, it will be another gesture  making Lao PDR to play an important role in contributing to the implementation of its agreement in the international climate change platform such as UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement that will help retaining the world's average temperature from rising more than 2 degrees.
