Phouphieng Bolaven Upstream in the district of Lamam, Xekong afforestation projects which has the objective to increase tree cover and enrich wildlife habitats in already degraded and deforested areas identified within the project area. This activity will help to enhance the biodiversity and other ecosystem services of the forests ecosystems. Under this activity, planting of native tree species viz. Dipterocarpus alatus, Schima wallichii, Hopea odorata, Gmelina arborea, Anthocephalus cadamba, etc will be carried out during the project period appropriately.

Planting activity will be planned in accordance with the site characteristics as well as the technology to be applied. Wherever possible, manual labor is used to conduct different activities of tree planting ensuring additional employment opportunities for the local people in the Southern region of Lao PDR covering an area of 129 Ha.

Assuming the project activities can properly reduce the deforestation rate by 10% in year one compared to the historical deforestation rate and gradually increasing to 70% within 10 years of the project period. After year 10, it is assumed the effectiveness index will remain at 70%. 

Note : this eligible ARR area have been non-forest areas for  10 years prior to the project start date
